FAQs
How much time would I be expected to spend in the office?
Flexibility is important to the OfS, as we recognise that it can enable people to work more effectively. A set of organisation-wide principles shape our approach to flexible and hybrid working, which our teams use as guidance on how they deliver their business goals. In a typical week, we expect colleagues to spend several days working from the office, balancing business needs, team collaboration and individual responsibilities.
Is there travel involved?
There will be some – whilst the majority of the organisation is Bristol based, we also have many colleagues in London, so travel will be required from time to time between our two offices.
How do I put forward the strongest possible case for my candidacy?
When you apply, you will be asked to submit a CV and a supporting statement. We would recommend that your CV should be chronological and contain current and previous roles, including role responsibilities and achievements, with measurable indications of the scale and impact of your role. A supporting statement should be 2 to 3 sides of A4.
Within this, please explain why you are applying for the role – why the Office for Students? Why this role? Why now? – and provide specific examples that demonstrate your ability to meet each of the key criteria found in the person specification for the role you are applying for.
These examples should explain the context, the approach you took, and the outcome of your work, including (where possible) clear, measurable indications of the impact.
What types of due diligence will be undertaken?
Two references will be taken – you will be asked to provide details of two referees who know you in a professional capacity when you apply. (please note we shall NOT approach these individuals without your prior consent, and referencing will take place for candidates progressed through to final panel interviews).
